HumanhoodPractice and ZERO travel to Russia

Last week the company was in St. Petersburg, Russia, as a part of the Open Look International Festival. Rudi and Julia delivered five days of workshop intensives to the local dance community accompanied by live music from Humanhood's collaborators and Birmingham based electro-acoustic duo EIF. The dancers dive into HumanhoodPractice, the company's core movement practice bringing elements of tai-chi, qi-gong, yoga, visualisation and bouncing into a 4 hours long guided meditation, trans-like states, movement technique, improvisation and company repertoire. The week ended with a full house performance of ZERO at the Alexandrisky Theatre.

EARTH the first of Humanhood’s element series

Humanhood’s Co-Artistic Directors Rudi Cole and Julia Robert have spent three weeks in Singapore creating a new piece commissioned by M1 CONTACT Contemporary Dance Festival and performed by T.H.E Dance Company for its opening night. The production entitled EARTH is the first of a series of commissioned pieces based on the five elements, and has premiered at the Esplanade Theatre on the 15th and 16th June 2018.

‘EARTH is an homage to the planet we live in, her processes, her cycles and the life she nurtures. The visible and the invisible, our physical and metaphysical connection with her.’ - Julia Robert and Rudi Cole Check this video for an insight into the piece and and a review from Bakchormeeboy.

Humanhood Universe at Sadler’s Wells

Humanhood’s universe took over Sadler’s Wells for a specially curated evening as part of the popular Wild Card series, offering a bespoke evening of works curated by the next generation of dance makers, on Thursday 24 & Friday 25 May in the Lilian Baylis Studio.

Humanhood invited former collaborators, Iain Armstrong, sound designer, and Horne Horneman, light designer, to morph the spaces within the Lilian Baylis, creating an immersive world of light and sound. Mark Howard, fashion designer and painter, captured in a massive canvas the fluidity and intricacy of the three newly joined company dancers, Jill Goh, Connor Scott and Noa Genazzano, who performed an adapted snipped of Torus. Gyda Valtysdottir, Icelandic cellist and founder of renowned band múm, performed a solo with two bows and her unique approach. The evenings also featured video clips about the reserch of astrophysicist Prof. Chaplin and his collaboration with Humanhood. ZERO, a duet exploring the interconnections and synchronicity in the universe, was performed by Rudi Cole and Julia Robert, culminating the experience.
