Weflow Experience in Barcelona

Humanhood's Artistic Directors Rudi Cole and Julia Robert invite you to join them for 2020 first 5 day intensive workshop of solely Weflow Experience.

During this course, you will delve into Julia and Rudi's movement practice and be guided through the Weflow Experience.
Weflow Experience is a physical, mental and spiritual journey that unleashes our inner potential to connect with the energy field of the body, discover our true infinite nature and become fully present through the awakening power of movement. Inspired by Eastern practices like tai-chi, qi-gong as well as ritualistic and shamanic approaches, Weflow focuses on the power of connection between mind and body to improve the dancer's presence and performance.

'This is a massive difference between an intensive where you train with various tools and this one, where you witness a whole philosophy behind each movement. To be moved from consciousness, experiences transformation of the body. Each day of training is to experience a true trance, in the most vast meaning of the word' - previous Participant's Experience.

In this session you will also explore the fundamental applications of Weflow into Humanhood's movement quality through directed improvisation and set movement phrases that will allow you to put into practice this unique way of moving and distinctive movement language.

Torus at Festival Grec Barcelona

In its premiere year Torus as been performed at Barcelona's iconic arts event: Festival Grec. Here an insight of what brought Torus to the stage at Mercat de les Flors and what meant for co-Artistic Directors Júlia and Rudi.

Cesc Casadesús, Director of Grec Festival, shares what brought him to program Torus at Mercat de les Flors for the festival’s 2019 edition: “What attracted us was the high quality technique of the work, with an identity and personality very concretes. It is a piece that reflects a unique personality.” (Press Release Grec 2019)

We asked Júlia Robert and Rudi Cole what meant for them to present their latest work Torus at Grec Festival de Barcelona in July 2019: ‘We are honoured by the trust Cesc Casadesús, the director of Festival Grec, had on us and our work. From visiting us in the rehearsal studio at La Caldera in Barcelona to programming Torus at main stage Mercat de les Flors there was a definitely a risky decision involved! But we can only be thankful and grateful for his brave commitment and genuine passion to keep shining light in the dance world and make the vision we had for Torus in Barcelona a reality!’

Here some 5 star reviews from the performances!

HumanhoodPractice & Repertoire Workshop in London

Experience Humanhood's movement practice and fluid quality while diving into the company's new production repertoire.

HumanhoodPractice is the core foundation of the company's physical & mental practice and its movement quality developed by co-artistic directors Rudi Cole and Julia Robert. Inspired by the past decade of their experience, both in the Western training and the Eastern physical and spiritual approaches, including Tai-chi, Qi-gong, Moving Breath and Yoga, the sessions bring special awareness to the articulation of the spine while focusing on the state of mind and the groundless of the body.

The movements are circular, fluid and rhythmic, working with intention and totality and using the coordination between visualisation and breath. The practice pushes the limits of the mind and the stamina of the body. The whole experience is guided by Rudi and Julia, and supported through a live sonic journey by electronic duo EIF (https://soundcloud.com/earthis...).

To follow, you will be learning the company new repertoire of Torus, dancing to the music of the piece and embodying the movement quality and intention that drives the action. Rudi and Julia will be giving personal feedback on the movement application and detail of the choreography.

This Intensive is open to professional dancers, graduates and vocational students who have an interest in the company's movement language and choreographic style.

'I could dance Humanhood's movement forever, it brought me to another dimension and I could reconnect with the reason why I started dancing'  - Barcelona Workshop Participant.

Humanhood Universe at Sadler’s Wells

Humanhood’s universe took over Sadler’s Wells for a specially curated evening as part of the popular Wild Card series, offering a bespoke evening of works curated by the next generation of dance makers, on Thursday 24 & Friday 25 May in the Lilian Baylis Studio.

Humanhood invited former collaborators, Iain Armstrong, sound designer, and Horne Horneman, light designer, to morph the spaces within the Lilian Baylis, creating an immersive world of light and sound. Mark Howard, fashion designer and painter, captured in a massive canvas the fluidity and intricacy of the three newly joined company dancers, Jill Goh, Connor Scott and Noa Genazzano, who performed an adapted snipped of Torus. Gyda Valtysdottir, Icelandic cellist and founder of renowned band múm, performed a solo with two bows and her unique approach. The evenings also featured video clips about the reserch of astrophysicist Prof. Chaplin and his collaboration with Humanhood. ZERO, a duet exploring the interconnections and synchronicity in the universe, was performed by Rudi Cole and Julia Robert, culminating the experience.
